The Engine Room Collective was set up by Matthew Phillip, leader of Mangrove Steel Band, in 1999 to support the UK's top pan soloists. Matthew worked with CultureMix Arts to set up Reading All Steel Percussion Orchestra in the same year.
The Engine Room Collective's Reading premier gave RASPO's young talented players the opportunity to hear and perform with two of the UK's top pan soloists; Kyron Akal and Carleen Etienne who impressed the audience with their virtuosity on the steel pan instrument. Backed by the Engine Room's excellent musicians RASPO joined the Collective with an arrangement of Blue Moon followed by Dollar which got many up and dancing for the rousing finale.
