The move, a result of the long-term relationship between Jelly and RASPO's management organisation CultureMix Arts, will significantly aid RASPO's professional development. RASPO is donating a contribution towards the delivery of Jelly's upcoming Heritage project.
The local steel band's sixteen regular young musicians will be joined by pan players from Reading, Slough, West Berkshire, Basingstoke, Henley and Aberdeen's Bucksburn Academy to create the forty-piece championship orchestra.
Iman Pascall (24) from New York's Berklee College of Music has arranged a ten-minute calypso for the last two weeks of intense rehearsals and local preview performances leading up to the big day.
To celebrate the move RASPO will host an open rehearsal on Thursday 18 August 8pm-10pm at the Jelly Art Pad, 3rd Floor, 42 Market Place, Reading RG1 2DE - a special preview as part of Jelly's Third Thursday event.
Outdoor performance previews will take place in Broad Street Reading East on Thursday 25 August at 4.30pm and again in the Butter Market, Reading on Friday 26 August at lunchtime. More...
RASPO welcomes supporters for the Panorama championship and to join the float for the Notting Hill Carnival procession on Sunday 28 and Monday 29 August to help to make this significant opportunity a resounding success for RASPO and Reading at Europe's largest carnival event.
Jelly Art Pad hosts RASPO Steel Orchestra
For two weeks RASPO will rehearse at Jelly's Art Pad at 42 Market Place, Reading RG1 2DE.
The central location is ideal for the forty piece orchestra who rehearse weekday evenings from 6pm to 10.30pm
