RASPO Steel Orchestra and RASPO Ensemble will perform four fundraising dates in Reading's Broad Street to entertain festive shoppers with a blend of calypso and carols.

Following RASPO Steel Orchestra's premier performance at Notting Hill Carnival's National Panorama Steelband Championship the award winning steel percussion orchestra presents a homecoming event for the whole family to celebrate Black History Month and introduce young new talent to a live audience.

For the first time in 2010 RASPO will enter the LONDON NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL National Panorama Steelband Competition and party in the Children's Day procession through West London.

Panorama returns to it's original home at Emslie Horniman's Pleasance Park, Kensal Road, London W10 5DB following three years at Hyde Park.

RASPO is keen to attract musicians to join them for this prestigious event. Do you play steel pans, drums, percussion or any instrument? Are you a fast learner? Do you want to take part in an exciting, national event and join the millions of Notting Hill Carnival goers at the largest street festival in Europe? If the answer is yes then contact us and join the RASPO Panorama Orchestra for the greatest event in the steel pan music calendar.

Workshops and rehearsals happen throughout July and early August at Watlington Hall. From 9 August the RASPO Panorama Orchestra will move to the Hexagon - see dates and times below.

Week 1: 9 - 13 August
4pm Doors open
5pm - 8pm Orchestra run through with arranger
8pm - 8.30pm Break
8.45 - 10.15pm Orchestra run through with arranger

Please note that is it vital that ALL players for Panorama attend the orchestra run through from 5-8pm

Week 2: 16 - 20 August
Week 3: 23 - 27 August
PanYard at the Hexagon will be open from 4pm - 11pm


DLR FESTIVAL OF WORLD CULTURES

Dun Laoghaire, IRELAND
The all-weather Festival of World Cultures is Ireland's largest global music festival. Entertaining audiences in excess of 250000 this Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council event features artists from 60 countires in 40 venues over three day period.
RASPO Steel Orchestra travelled to Ireland with eighteen musicians to perform on live stages and for the procession as well as offering carnival workshops in head dress making and steel pan music.

RASPO entertained Woodley Carnival goers for the second year running.

TOWN CENTRE DAY - READING

The BIG half term event of Children's Festival in Reading Town Centre featured a RASPO Steel Orchestra performance in Broad Street West outside Waterstones book store. The glorious sunshine attracted many who enjoyed the music with some even dancing along to the calypso beat.
RASPO also offered free workshops to children aged from 7-11 and 12-18. The workshops for younger children were the most popular with several inspired to join our regular beginner workshops. See Pics

LUTON INTERNATIONAL CARNIVAL
Spring Bank Holiday Monday 31 May 2010
Main Stage 12noon - 1pm - Wardown Park LUTON

RASPO Steel Orchestra performed on the Main Stage to open Luton International Carnival. The event attracts up to 100,000 people each year with 2000 taking part in the procession made up of sixty floats. Luton International Carnival is the largest one day carnival in Europe.

RASPO play at Notting Hill Carnival

RASPO Steel Orchestra launched their carnival costume camp RASPO Mas and took part in the Notting Hill Carnival procession.

In Reading during the summer carnival workshops in head dress making, flags, costumes and steel pan music saw RASPO's well prepared for their first appearance in the National Panorama Steelband Championship which kicks on the carnival on August Bank Holiday Saturday.

The event was a huge undertaking for RASPO's parent company CultureMix who is working in partnership with Reading Borough Council to showcase local talent at Europe's largest street festival Notting Hill Carnival.
