RASPO at WOMAD 2009 - Review, video and photos
After more than ten years of delighting audiences with their live performances RASPO steel orchestra celebrate by releasing their first CD 'RASPO Live!' released in August 2009.
Recorded at the Grade I listed building The Abbey Gateway, 'RASPO Live!' has a selection of eleven tracks from the orchestra's reportoire.
Classical favourites by composers Bizet and Brahms juxtapose with popular traditionals like 'Blue Moon' and 'Sway' alongside uptempo arrangements of songs by the grandmaster of Trinidadian calypso Lord Kitchener.
The CD celebrates RASPO's longevity and showcases the unwavering dedication of the young musicians, the artistic director and the arrangers. Featuring the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago 'RASPO Live!' presents an eclectic selection of Caribbean flavoured music on steel pans that will please even the most discerning of tastes.
'RASPO Live!' is the ideal addition to your music collection whenever you feel like dancing, listening to and enjoying the sunshine sound of a steel band at its very best.

RASPO's first CD release 'RASPO Live!' was launched at WOMAD's Charlton Park festival to coincide with their stage show in the Siam Tent in July 2009.
For the WOMAD show the 22-piece orchestra included guest calypsonian and solo pannist Michael 'Bubbles' Oliviere, and award winning dancers Richard Benn and Pelly Fenix.
The performance paid homage to Calypso Grandmaster Aldwyn 'Lord Kitchener' Roberts, and the King of Pop Michael Jackson.
